Ghost Tour of Melbourne

In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a deceased person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices—funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic—are specifically designed to appease the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people they were associated with in life, though stories of the phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals have also been recounted. Australia, as a settled country, isn’t that old. Melbourne is one the largest and oldest cities on the continent, yet we can only look back to the late 1700s for a Western history of the country. With such a short time-frame to work with, Melbourne has more than its fair share of reputedly-haunted locations. This spooky walking tour brings the sometimes terrifying otherworldliness of this great city to life, or should we say death.....m...mwa...mwah....mwahhahahahahah!

Ghost Tour Of Melbourne Review by grandchildren3

Sorry l am a bit late with this review as l did this tour early January 2015. The hostess was amazing she certainly knew her stuff. I found this more of a history tour rather than a Ghost tour but even so enjoyed it immensely. We started off at the National Trust Building in Melbourne and finished at the Victorian Market. The walk was over 3kms but you would never have know as the walk and time went very quickly. We went down lane ways which l have walked many times and never knew the history of what when on in these lanes especially the night life. Maybe the ghost side of the tour would have more feeling in the winter but you know what that part did not concern us cause the tour itself was excellent. I live in Melbourne and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will do another one in the future. Oh, l have recommended to many friends and family as a must do!!!!!

My 12 year old son and I were part of this tour on Sunday 11 January and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Our guide was Rebecca and she was fantastic - her knowledge was incredible but also the way in which she delivered the information made it interesting. What a wonderful 2+ hours. Thank you Rebecca :-)(Posted on 10/7/2015)
