A group of 5 of us, 2 adults, 2 college students, and one teen went on the chocolate tour. Our guide was Walter, and he made the tour very interesting and fun. It was more than just a chocolate tour, it was really a small NYC history tour that took us through Chelsea and Greenwich Village. Walter shared a lot of interesting facts about the neighborhoods and the buildings.

Of course, the sweets were amazing. We had mini cupcakes, chocolate candy, a chocolate cookie, and some exotic chocolates made with very unique ingredients. I don't remember exactly how many places we stopped at, but it was at least 5 or 6, maybe more. All those little tastes of chocolate really added up; we were all full of chocolate when it was all done. The tour started at Chelsea Market which in itself is a great place to check out. The tour does require a bit of walking so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes and hope for some good weather. I recommend going on this tour.

I did the Chocolate tour of New York by Great Tours of New York and give it a thumbs up! Chandler, our guide, was filled with interesting facts about the city as we made our way through Chelsea, Greenwich Village, West Village and SOHO over the 2 hours. There were 8 stops and the variety of the different places was enough to keep the groups attention. I would recommend it for anyone visiting the city who not only loves chocolate, but also wants a little history of New York.

If you plan ahead, look out for Groupon discounts.

The tour itself was fun. The first place was Lilac and that had wonderful chocolate. Everyone bought something. You do get a 10% discount at each stop which pays for the tax in NY. But we took our tour in late June and it was the worst day. The temperature got to 89 degrees ... Horrible for walking in the City. Do not go in the summer unless it is overcast or even raining would have been better. Because it was so hot our guide walked way too fast and spoke way to fast, just to move it along. There were 9 of us, but there were supposed to be 20; thank heavens others did not show, I am sure because of the heat. With 9 people it was bearable but had there been more it would not have been a good tour. Sidewalks are narrow downtown, and we are not the only ones on them! Stores are very small; we were able to go inside some of the stores, but it would have been impossible with additional people. Our guide seemed knowledgable about the area. Pointed out were TV shows were taken (Friends and Seinfeld). Pointed out the Highline Park. Again, good event - Just do not go in the heat of the summer.

Just came from my first walking tour of New York... We did the Chocolate Tour of NY and it was really great! I am not very familiar with the city and our guide took us to the Chelsea area, the Village and SoHo. It was very informative and I got to see parts of the city I did not know and will want to return to again. The chocolate places we visited were all very nice and no one pressures you to buy anything. Our guide was Kyle and he was very nice and provided us with little bits of info on the various areas we walked through not just about the chocolate shops.
If you like to walk around and see new shops as well as enjoy chocolate treats this is for you.

Received this as a gift, and it's one of my best gifts ever. nothing fancy , but got to the point. A great walking tour and of course eatting chocolatly things! three generations, my mom, me and my daughter, great for all aged adults, I think young kids would be board. Tried some things I never had which made it exciting, deff going back to the stops to try some more goodies! James our guide was very informative and entertaining.

My friends and i took a two hour tour of chocolate stores in the Greenwich Village/Soho area. Our guide was Justin Van Voorhis. As a native New Yorker and a chocolate addict, I thought i knew a lot about where to find the good stuff. But Justin knew a lot of places I was not aware of. At each stop, a different delicous treat was waiting for us. Along the route, Justin also gave us interesting facts about chocolate and also about some of the unrelated, but interesting places we passed. At several of the places, it was also possible to buy items at a discount, but there was never any pressure whatsoever to do so. This trip with tour guide Justin is highly recommended for out of towners and natives alike.

We went on their Chocolate Tour last week during the kids spring break. We found this company via a Groupon I purchased, and it was very easy to redeem. We made a reservation about one month in advance for a Wednesday afternoon tour, which seemed to fill up quickly, but there were other times open. Our tour guide Jessie was lovely -- very well spoken and knowledgeable of the sites we visited and the neighborhoods we walked through.

There were a lot of stops, maybe 8 or so, going to different places that we'd never been to, trying chocolate bars, hot chocolate, cookies, cupcakes, cannoli, macaron, etc. Each stop was more delicious than the last. A few of the shops offered a discount to tour participants, which was nice.

It was a bit of walking, so make sure you have comfy shoes and are prepared for the weather. It lasted about 2 hours, starting at Chelsea Market and going east through Soho and the Village. I went with my kids: 16, 14 and 11, who gave it a big thumbs up!

My best friend's fiancé purchased the groupon for the cupcake tour so we wouldn't spend all day shopping... We were a little hesitant at first, given our guide walked around with a cupcake hat and told jokes about cupcakes but it ended up being a great time. It's a good walk, and you get samples from great places we haven't tried before. I've even found my new favorite spot! The sample sizes were perfect and we were feeling quite stuffed by the time we finished. The biggest complaint, and only complaint I have is that at the end if the tour, our guide asked for a gratuity. Gratuity should never be asked for and made the crowd feel uncomfortable.

Like everyone I got a deal for one of their tours. I needed a weekend trip to NYC and a cupcake tour seemed like a fun way to wrap it up.

It was! The tour guide, Kerri was great and provided all kinds of fun facts. The tour hits all the hot and touristy spots, Molly's was our favorite. But everywhere was good and the group had a really good time.

You will eat a LOT of sugar, you will do a moderate amount of walking. One of these things is good for you.

We had Mallory as a tour guide and had a great time. This was our first time doing anything like this and we were psyched. All in all there were 6 stops. One stop was for gelato and another stop was for macaron (not macaroons, macaron). Didn't mind the gelato one, but could've done without the macaron stop.

You do get to sample stuff at each stop which was awesome and at one of the stops, you get a full sized cupcake to take home. Really a great experience. I couldn't believe one of the places charges $1 for a tiny little "top" of a cupcake. Although it tasted good, can't say I'd return to that place. Just too pricey for my liking.

The gelato was heavenly. Wish I remembered the names of the places, but it was awesome awesome awesome. We sampled the mango and once go back into my camera to get the name, I'll be back there for sure.

The places we went were all new to me. I was surprised at how many cupcake bakeries there were in such a close distance and Mallory did a great job at explaining them all.

We did this as a Groupon.. maybe $20 for 2? Either way, it was well worth it, got us out of the house for a bit, and we got to sample some great bakeries. Some we'd go back to and some not-so-much.

I have to say, walking tour is only as good as the tour guide and the places you visit. And that's why I gave four stars for this tour. Alex is very knowledgeable with New York City and of course chocolate. He enlightened the walking tour (with the help of the weather) with the jokes and the history of New York City including the street signs as well as of course "Chocolate." We are looking into the next walking tour in a different neighborhood - Brooklyn. Alex might educates us a little bit more about the other borough of New York City. By the way, the tasting of the chocolate/cupcake/cookies was so delicious - maybe a little bit too much sweetness for me but enjoyed it very much.

To begin, I must say that my family LOVED our tour guide. Brendan was very informative. We learned a lot and the information was appreciated by the kids of all ages. We learned about and saw houses of writers. We also saw a lot of historical landmarks. I think the best for the kids was the apartment building of Monica from the tv show "friends". The chocolate on this tour was really good. We got to sample eight different types of chocolate and goodies though the portions could have been a bit bigger. My favorite was either the cookie at Milk and Cookies or the French macaroon at Bisous Ciao. One thing I would change would be for the people with allergies. I would suggest adding other options since a couple of the samples had nuts in them. Other then that, the tour was a great way to see, learn about and taste a bit of Manhattan.

My husband and I purchased tickets through Amazon Local and luckily scheduled our tour on a beautiful spring day. It was a packed tour but our guide, Marcy, did a good job keeping us together and making sure we all heard the fun facts about each stop. It's not all chocolate (candy), but includes cupcakes, cookies, macarons (French) and cannolis. I have not visited lower Manhattan in a long time and thoroughly enjoyed walking the neighborhoods of the Village and SoHo in addition to being introduced to bakeries/shops I would never have discovered on my own. My favorites were Bisous Ciao (French macarons) and Xocolatti. Both place were unique and amazing (and of course expensive) but would definitly treat myself to either in the future!! If you like chocolate in many forms and like walking the neighborhoods of lower Manhattan then this is the tour for you!

Tour guide Marcie was good, pleasant, patient. The walk was manageable, zigzagging from Chelsea to SoHo. But we only made it to 7 places! and the last one was a ways away and not worth the trek. Most of the tastings were on the skimpy side, especially considering many in our group purchased extra. Milk and Cookies on Commerce street was the best stop: a full size delicious cookie. But 3 of the 7 only offered only dime-sized slivers of chocolate to taste! Too much time (and extra money) spent at stop 2, maybe we ran out of time because of this to accommodate an 8th stop? It was our first foodie tour, makes me wary of trying others, used a groupon but even then the value was marginal.

We met our guide at Chelsea Market which used to be a Nabicso factory. Take some time to walk around inside - great seafood to eat and buy. The tour itself took us through Chelsea, Greenwich Village and SoHo to chocolatiers and bakeries. Some places are quite small so after getting your free sample you can go inside those if you choose to. The Magnolia Bakery made famous by Sex and the City has outstanding cupcakes. Be sure to buy at least one to bring home.Chocolate Bar had outstanding hot chocolate in a variety of flavors. Our guide pointed out interesting facts about each area and we didn't feel rushed. There is a restroom stop at one of the Italian bakeries. All in all, it was a nice tour which was purchased for a good price through Groupon.

We did a tour with Alex as our tour guide Thursday and it was epic. He was incredibly knowledgeable, super friendly and made this event very special. The samples were alright, a couple of them were good but most of it IS NOT CHOCOLATE ! Which disappointed some of the fine chocolate fans but for us it was still worth it especially if you book through groupon. The weather was extremely cold but therefore made our group a very small and private tour.

My wife purchased a Groupon for 2 for the chocolate tour. Reservation was smooth. We didn't find spots on the day we were looking for since we didn't reserve early enough. I recommend you reserve early especially if going in the weekend.

There were 16 people in our group. Our guide was Brandon. We stopped at 8 or 9 locations over the course of 3 hours. Tastings were of decent size. Rather than chocolate, the better part of the trip was fun facts about NYC and about the chocolate establishments we were visiting.

Initially, I felt the group size was fine but I soon realized that we were spending a lot of time waiting on everyone in the group to taste and make their purchases. In 15 degrees Farenheit, waiting is not fun! Also, the chocolate shops are small so we were constantly bumping into our group members or other patrons.

Overall, I recommend the tour not just for the chocolate but also for the fun facts.

My sister and I recently traveled to NYC in December 2013 to celebrate my birthday, and so I found out about the Chocolate tour of NYC. I located a discount deal on Travel Zoo- 2 tickets for a total of $35 (normally would have cost $100). It said to meet at entrance of Chelsea Market. We got there an hour early so we could walk around Chelsea Market. We went outside when it was time, and met up with the 2 tour guides and other participants. It was a cold 28 degrees in NYC. They split us into two groups. My group had a male guide by the name of Sean. We let the other group get a 15 minute head start before we started our tour behind them. But no matter how much of a head start we kept giving the earlier group, we kept running into the other group who was much slower about three different times along the tour. Still, we had a great time. Sean was very knowledgeable about the different neighborhood sections we were visiting. He gave interesting tidbits such as about the different colored street signs. Brown signs were historical areas. The tastings we had were very good, and large enough. Some were a mini cupcake; a French-style macaroon; different chocolate pieces of candy, a chocolate cookie, a mini cannoli....very nice assorted samples to taste. Some of places on the tour were chocolate candy stores, others were bakeries. So, it was a nice mix. A couple of the places had restrooms one could use. I thought the walking pace was just fine for me. If you decide to go on the tour (and I do recommend it), wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. Some did not and their feet started to hurt. Now, when we went just a few days ago here in December, it was very cold and windy (28 degrees). So, one must dress appropriately for walking and also to keep warm. Sean did a great job as a tour guide. Very informative & friendly. The only recommendation I would make is that whoever's group goes first, it is that tour guide's responsibility to make sure their group isn't always trailing. It should be a "clue" if the second group keeps catching up, and we were not even trying. We were going at a comfortable pace, not fast. We had to wait outside in the cold until the first group finished visiting the site before we could enter.

This Saturday, I took my family and friends to the Chocolate Tour of New York, guided by our wonderful host Alex, and it was absolutely fantastic! I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed learning about the history of the city and sampling all those delicious treats along the way. The Barcelona Bar at Voges was my favorite, while my kids loved the chocolate macarons at Bisous Ciao. It was as much a tour of New York as it was a learning experience about the world of chocolate. Alex was entertaining, charming and full of great information about New York City. I encourage everyone to try this tour, and ask for Alex if you want a top notch experience. One last note, we celebrated my daughter's 11th birthday this summer on the Cupcake Tour of New York and it was a big hit! Can't wait to try the Food Tour Of Williamsburg!

Alex was our guide for the Chocolate Walking Tour. We had a beautiful day for the tour. Alex is very pleasant, had lots of energy & knowledgeable about the history of the city. The sampling is delicious from all the participating stores but personally I like mango paprika from Xocolatti, macarons from Biscous Ciao, and the Bapchi's carmel toffee from Vosges and also got to sample the new The Hunger Games Katniss chocolate bar it's not part of the sampling for the tour but you can ask to samples pretty any flavor chocolate they have available for sales. I highly recommend this tour.

Yesterday my friend and I went on the two hour chocolate tasting walking tour with ALEX as our tour guide. It was so much fun. Alex was an interesting, friendly and informative tour guide. The chocolate shops and bakeries that we visited were spectacular and hidden away in places that I would have never found on my own. The little neighborhoods that we visited show a wholly different side of NYC.
The sweet tastings were certainly sufficient and there was time enough to shop for take home treats if people wished to do so. If you take the tour, you need to have on comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. There are restroom stops and water breaks along the tour as well. It was a wonderful day in NYC on a budget.

Last Saturday I decided to drag myself out of bed to go to a chocolate tour Downtown Manhattan. It turned out to be one the best experiences I have had in NYC, even having lived here for a quite a few years. The tour was led by Jessie Fahay, who is no ordinary tour guide. She knew her history that's for sure and she was really comfortable with leading a group of young and not so young. There was a group of moms with their young girls, one of whom as celebrating her birthday. They had so much fun and so did I, taking photos of historic places in downtown Manhattan while having delicious cookies, cupcakes, macaroons and exquisite high end chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, not to mention the brilliant weather and Jessie's great energy and enthusiasm. Highly recommended!

We had the perfect weather day which, of course, made the walk more pleasant. Although we had 30 people in our group (so they do not keep to the limit stated) we were able to hear, enjoy and taste! Our tour guide was knowledgeable about the area we went to. However, it was interesting to note that most of the chat was not about chocolate other than information about the specific stores we went to. In spite of this, it was interesting information and we enjoyed the tour.
We had one large cookie, a macaroon, a cannoli, a mini cupcake and small pieces of chocolate at the chocolate shops. Worth the price due to the groupon-otherwise it is pricey. Bring a Ziploc to avoid a sugar buzz, and to enjoy some of the goodies at home. The Highline is a nice walk to do after the tour is over as it's not too far from 14th Street.

Had a great time on the Walking Chocolate Tour today. The tour guide Alex was wonderful , really nice, very personable and had lots of interesting facts to give out. The walk itself was quite nice and of course the tasty stops along the way were just that...tasty!

I think the only thing that would have made the walk better would have been to have it less crowded. When I originally booked it I was told each tour had a max of 20 people...as I thought that was even a bit much to arrive and discover we'd be a group of 30+ people was a bit overwhelming. It definitely lengthened the time the walk itself took and proved to be a little difficult space wise during some of the stops.

Overall, I would definitely book another tour...and definitely check to see if it was Alex guiding it!

Brendon was a wonderful guide. There was lots of walking, but it was a beautiful day and we saw different neighborhoods. I wouldn't want to do it on a very rainy day because some of the stores we visited were very small, so some of the time we were standing on the sidewalk. The 2 bathroom breaks were well spaced out. Bring or buy water, some of the goodies make you thirsty. Maybe bring a zip bag to bring home some of your goodies if you get chocolate overload, some samples were rather large and very rich. Bring a camera. Wear comfortable shoes. Not a good idea for anyone who has difficulty walking. Great gift idea for someone who loves chocolate and doesn't mind walking.

I thought it would be fun to take this tour when my chocoholic mother was visiting. At first, I thought I would just make my own list of places, but then I thought it would be more interesting and informative to take an actual tour.
We took the 5pm tour on a Friday, and there were 20 people in the group. I had read many reviews about the group being too big, but the website said 20, and we had 20.
We did only hit 7 of 8 places. I was surprised that we started at the Chelsea Market and didn't hit the chocolate place in there (we had gone inside the market beforehand, but passed the chocolate shop assuming they would be on the tour.)
I was fine with just having small samples (some other reviewers complained). We had enough time to make quick purchases.
The tour itself took 2 hours on the dot. Our guide offered details about the neighborhoods through which we passed, as well as fun facts about specifics buildings, parks, etc. This is what made the tour worth the price of the coupon. He did offer details about chocolate (I knew the chocolate history spiel already, though I'm sure most others did not).

Caveat: Only three places on this tour were chocolate shops. (This seemed strange, since I threw together a list of over eight chocolate shops within 6-7 blocks that we went to after the tour.)
Four of the places were great. Three seemed superfluous and off-topic. The cupcake, cookie, and cannoli, while tasty, didn't seem to fit the tour. I could say the same for the macaron bakery, but Bisous Ciao was so good it should be on every tour of every kind.

Suggestions: Perhaps start with Liddabit and Leonidas, since we are already at Chelsea Market. If you are going to knock a location off the list for time, don't make it a chocolate shop; I *really* wanted to go to Vosges (sad face). Ditch the bakeries and add more chocolate, like Marie Belle, Varsano, and Jacques Torres. A few tweaks and this could be spectacular.

We have been to New York many times, but never took the time/opportunity to walk around Chelsea and Greenwich Village and this was the perfect way to do it. It was nice to have a tour guide and get yummy samples on the way. Tip: this company is currently running Groupons for all of its tours. With the Groupon or other promotion, this is a great deal and good value. I don't think I would have been as happy if I had paid the full price (which is high in my opinion).

Several friends and I recently took the Great New York Chocolate Tour. Our guide, Alex, was wonderful. Not only did he enlighten us about the many different nuances of chocolate and how to savor each variety we tasted, he also shared many interesting facts about the history of the neighborhoods walked through..
The tour lasted well over the scheduled two hours, which was fine with us. Alex didn't want us to miss anything and made sure that we had time to enjoy our tastings at each stop, ask questions, use the facilities and make purchases.
Alex's charm and sense of humor, not to mention the cupcakes, macaroons, cookies, cannolis and chocolates made this a most enjoyable and memorable tour.

We went for a chocolate tour on a lovely Saturday in August. Got a groupon deal and it was worth it. The tour was 2 hour long with 8 stops in West Village. Enjoyed the variety of chocolates served. Every stop had something new to offer from chocolates to cupcakes to cookies. Our tour guide, Ciby was awesome. She provided a brief background of every shop we stopped by. The only suggestion I have is to give a small box to everyone in the beginning, may be at the 1st stop. If someone wants to carry a serving instead of eating it, he/she will have the option. Just to be fair, the cookie shop gave small bags for someone who wants to eat the cookies later. Overall experience was great and would highly recommend to every chocolate lover.

If you come to New York and are looking for a treat, the Chocolate Tour is worth every single penny! We did it through Groupon and found that we got more than we paid for. It lasted two hours and involved about 1.5 miles of walking. We went to 9 different chocolate-based locations in New York, all which were fantastic. We were happily surprised by the portions given (a full cupcake, an entire chocolate cookie, a whole macaron). Overall, it was a great time and our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Only thing: the tour started outside Chelsea Market but ended somewhere completely different so if you are not familiar with the city (or don't have a smartphone), you might want to bring a map to find your way back!

Our two hour tour was actually three hours and was so much more than just a chocolate tour. It was also a complete sightseeing tour of not only the neighborhoods we visited but of all of New York. Alex was a walking encyclopedia!!! The chocolate stops weren't bad either. Chocolate candies, chocolate cookies, canolis, cupcakes, macaroons at places such as Li-Lac Chocolates, Vosges, Magnolia Bakery, Milk and Cookies, and Bisousciao. Well worth the money. Magnolia Bakery being my favourite. We had seven stops in total and crazy amounts of sweets! The only down side ... It said it would be a group of no more than 20 and there was 37 of us!!! FAR TOOOOOOOO MANY people in the tour. Alex did a fantastic job getting us around from spot to spot but in many of the stops we didn't go into the shop because there was no room. GREAT, GOOD, NOT SO GOOD and AMENDS

The GREAT: Our guide Alex made the tour very enjoyable as he guided us through various lower Manhattan neighborhoods enlightening us with a plethora of facts, figures and history of both the neighborhoods and chocolate. He was truly knowledgeable, professional, friendly and went out of his way to make up for the bad side of the tour which was out of his control. As guides go, he was excellent and enjoyable!

The GOOD: The neighborhoods are lovely and so very different from mid-town. The 8 or 9 chocolatiers and bakeries at which we stopped gave everyone samples that ranged from cannoli, large cookies and cupcakes to minuscule pieces of broken chocolate bars. Several shops offered free water and restrooms. No question you can easily get "sugared out" by tour's end, so you may want to carry a water, coffee or capucchino or buy one along the way.

The NOT SO GOOD: the tour advertises groups of 20, which is really pushing the limits of keeping everyone together and fitting into the amount of space available in most of the shops; our group totaled 35 to start. Other reviews seem to suggest that overbooking is not unusual. People in our very large group got separated almost immediately (Alex stopped until we were once again one) each stop took nearly twice as long, so a two hour tour quickly began to approach 4 hours, which caused some with other obligations to dropout along the way.

The AMENDS: upon contacting Great New York Tours on behalf of two couples, noting that we were less than delighted with the size of the group, they compensated me with two complimentary vouchers for future food tours. Since we frequently visit the city, we will most likely use them, assuming we can be assured of a workable sized group.

SUMMARY: if you can get a 30% discounted price through LivingSocial, Groupon or some similar site and your group is no larger than 15-20, go for it. If you get Alex as a guide, think of it as a bonus. Note: if chocolate melts in your fingers, you are just not eating it fast enough!

All 35 of us strolled through Chelsea,SoHo and the East Village in search of chocolate. We were led by Alex, our witty and historically correct guide. It was a wondrous way to explore the city and discover innovative chocolate treats. My favorites were Magnolia Bakery and Xocolatti.
BUT I was displeased with the size of the tour. Great New York Tours states that their tour capacity is 20 people per tour guide. Well, this certainly was not the case on our tour. It was time consuming when walking to each shop and trying to visit inside. Not only was our large group difficult to manage, but it certainly was not easy for pedestrians trying to maneuver around us! Alex handled it very well, but this left "a bitter chocolate" taste in my mouth.

Four of us tried the chocolate walking tour through Chelsea, SoHo, and part of the East village. Our guide, Marcy, was very personable. There were plenty of tastings, so no shortage of chocolate. A few of the stops had rest rooms, so that was nice, but it did add time to the tour.

The cupcakes at Magnolia bakery were our collective fave! The best. We tasted dark chocolate, chocolate with spices, chocolate with bacon, macaroons, cookies (actually not the best at Milk & Cookies), and cannoli's. A nice variety of tastings, and for chocolate lovers, a nice variety.

The tour did have approx. 24 people, which was too many. We also did not learn much history about the village (which is unfortunate), but did learn a few things about the history of chocolate.

Did the chocolate tour on a Sunday in July... warm but decent weather. I saw the mixed reviews here & I guess the size of your tour group & tour guide can affect your experience. We were very fortunate!

Brendan was our guide & while first appearances were deceiving, he was a very knowledgeable & pleasant guide. We made 8 stops, & had samples at each. Again, reading some of the past reviews, people complained about the size of the samples. They are SAMPLES, not meals! :) We were quite happy with the samples.... and as anyone who has consumed a lot of chocolate at one time will tell you, there is such a thing as too much. By the 3rd stop, we were getting a little "chocolated out". DEFINITELY bring water or another drink (some stops supply, or you can buy there), because after a while, the sugar gets to you. We were anxious to have something savory after our choc-overload. LOL

The only reasons why the tour did not get 5 stars are:
A- you do NOT visit Jacques Torres as mentioned (although they tell you itinerary can change), so they should take it off the website.
B- Brendan did get a little rushed towards the end & mentioned several times that he had another tour to do at 3pm. We were a nice group of around 20 & almost lost some of us twice because he was trying to speed us up while walking.

They really need to allow 3 hrs, not 2, for the tour... between walking to each shop, shopping & using restroom facilities, it takes up more time.

This was a fun day to spend with my family and gave us something to do in the city. The day we went was extremely hot, and even though we walked a lot, it was actually still bearable. The pace of the tour was really good, and allowed for time to cool off, shop around, and take rests. Sybil was my tour guide and she was awesome! Very friendly, easy going, accommodating and knowledgeable. She dealt with a rude person that was on the tour with us in a very professional manner. Along the way, we were able to sample really great chocolates, a cupcake, cannoli, macaroon, and cookie. It was a lot of sweets, and by then end I didn't want to consume any more sugar ever again. That was probably because it was very hot too. It was a great experience!

I had read that there is a lot of chocolate tasting on this tour, so I skipped lunch and ate a light breakfast before the 12:00 tour. Good thing I did. We visited 8 sights, some with small samples but 4 with full sized samples (cupcake, cookie, macaroon, cannoli). Samples were all interesting, some delicious but I did not love them all. Some places also offered additional free samples of other goodies. I enjoyed the banana pudding sample from Magnolia Bakery, and the chocolate with bacon from the last shop was worth a try. The neighborhoods were beautiful and I was interested in the facts provided by Brendan, the tour guide. Overall, very fun but a little tiring. I have to admit, I have probably had my fill of chocolate for a while.

My family of four used a Groupon to go on a Chocolate Tour with Jessica. We thoroughly enjoyed it even though it was 93 degrees and we were all melting! (including the cupcake frosting...) Jessica was friendly, full of interesting tidbits about both chocolate and NYC, and great with my daughters (9 and 14). Lots of variety on the tour, from salted dark chocolate to double chocolate cupcakes, as well as really yummy cannoli (I live near Arthur Avenue so I know my cannoli!), double chocolate cookies, and the best macaron I have ever had! My hubby wants to go on the Haunted New York tour next, but the girls and I want to take the Cupcake tour! Will definitely do a tour again, although not until fall, when it's cooler!

Alex lead this tour. It was fantastic. Not only were the chocolates delicious but Alex's knowledge of New York was brilliant. We were so surprised to get a historical presentation as well as fabulous chocolates.

Our only criticism is that more than 20 people were on the tour, too many to allow for all the stops. We had to miss one despite everything that Alex could do to move the crowd along. We would go on any tour that he was leading. He's exceptional. (Posted on 7/11/2013)

my husband and I joined this group for their chocolate toour of new york. we met our guide at Chelsea market on a beautiful spring day and after Alex gave us a hint of what was to come....He was very knowledgeable about New York City and shared information that was both interesting and informative. we stopped at some of the best chocolage shops and bakeries in the City and each stop gave us a generous taste of what they made....it seemed every shop we stopped in became a favorite amid vows to go back another day....we got to chat with the some of the owners who were happy to chat and answer questions. as we walked between the various stops our guide made stops along the way and made the city come alive! this was a very special day, we walked alot, we saw alot and we sure ate alot! i would heartily recommend this to both native and tourist alike....just be sure you go in good walking shoes and are hungry!

He knew a ton of New York history (and a tremendous amount of related history, as well). He also spent a lot of time with our group and ours ran 40 minutes longer than the allotted 2 hours, which seemed to be fine with all 21 of us. Each location was interesting and fun. If you like dessert you'll love the Chocolate tour! They don't skimp on the samples so come hungry! There are seven stops on the tour and most of the samples are really rich so I'd recommend bringing a water bottle and maybe taking one or two of the samples home. Two of the places offer boxes / bags for your cookies and cupcakes and I'd recommend taking advantage of these so you can get a little break and save some for later.

I thought this tour would be really touristy but it wasn't. In fact almost everyone in our group was a local. Our tour guide was great and gave us a lot of info about the places we visited as well as some random info and fun facts along the way. It was a really fun and unique way to spend an evening and I'd definitely be curious to check out their other tours.

We visited a nice selection of chocolatiers and bakeries, enjoying a variety of items. There were places I had never heard of before, and will definetly go back in the future.
Bringing a water bottle and wearing good shoes for walking is a must.

“Shannon showed us a great time”Review by RosalindNora (a TripAdvisor member)
Loved the Chocolate Tour! Our guide was Shannon, and she was funny and well-informed. On the Cupcake Tour, we didn't get as much from the experience, not only because I felt it wasn't as "cup-cakey" as should be (why are we tasting gelato, even if it is the most amazing ever?), but also because the guide somehow didn't seem to be making the most of her facts and didn't seem to be having a good time herself. In reference to the reviewer who thinks you're just out buying cupcakes: the point isn't to get good deals on treats, it's to have fun learning about the city and new places. I've walked by some of these shops without a second glance. I need someone to say -- Hey, try this place or this different flavor. I now have a few new favorites (Molly's Cupcakes, you're my new sweets crush!). I've lived in NYC over 25 years (including the neigborhoods we walked through) and learned new things. Wear comfortable shoes, walk close to the guide so you can hear every cool tidbit, bring a bottle of water, have a bit of protein beforehand to minimize sugar high, and take advantage of any opportunity to take part of your treat to go (wish I had thought to bring a little shopping bag). Folks, tip your tour guide -- she's not the one making the bucks off your tour, the same way your waitress isn't taking home what you pay for dinner.

The Chocolate Tour was GREAT! It was an especially awesome value since we managed to find a Groupon for only $15/person. We got to taste lots of different chocolates plus 3 big desserts including: a cupcake from Magnolias Bakery, a big cookie from Milk & Cookies, and a cannoli from Pasticceria Bruno. We read some reviews that said the cupcake and cannoli weren't included in the ticket price, but rest assured THEY ARE! I guess they tried to offer the tour cheaper and not include the two other desserts and it back-fired. So, don't worry, they are included now.

Our tour guide, Keaton, was fantastic! He was so nice and very informative. It was cool to hear a little about the history of chocolate, but even cooler to hear about the history of NYC.

If you love chocolate, then go on this tour. Be advised that your taste for chocolate has to go beyond Hershey's! Our tour guide was Keaton, and he was very amiable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. His lesson on the proper way to taste chocolate (analogous to tasting wine) was invaluable. The samples you get along the way are generous (full-sized at Pasticceria Bruno, Magnolia Bakery, Jacques Torres, and Milk and Cookies; pieces of chocolate at Lilac, Chocolate Bar, Xocolatti's, and Vosges). The must-haves for me were the Wicked Hot Chocolate at Jacques Torres and the Autumn Spice Bar at Chocolate Bar.
You do have time to shop at each location (though today we did not stop long enough at Jacques Torres for that - an oversight, I guess - but it's a LONG way back to Chelsea Market from the last stop, so make sure to do your shopping before leaving).
Bring along a bottle of water because you will get thirsty.
Xocolatti's is a boutique chocolate shop with unusual offerings; while the white chocolate Mango paprika bark was tasty, I do not consider white chocolate as true chocolate. The only other flavor that interested me, (Saffron Nut Chikki), was sold out. Sold out? Unacceptable. The cannoli at Bruno's is a bit of a cop-out since there was no chocolate to be had here (were there chocolate chips in the filling?). I think this stop needs to be replaced. Pronto.
Overall, a great outing for native New Yorkers as well as for tourists. Keaton was informative and likable. I really recommend this tour!

Took this tour twice I loved it so much.
The first time my boyfriend bought as I present to me. I had such a great time and thought it was so different and fun that I booked it as a girls afternoon out for a few of my friends. You dont just get to taste chocolate; you walk away with a new appreciation for what chocolate is, where it comes from, how the handmade chocolate you try on this tour, differs from commercial chocolate. The guide is the best tour guide I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was lucky enough to get Bert on both tours that I booked. He remembered me! Which I though was super cool. You can just tell that he absolutely LOVES his job.

This was a present from my son. I have a great son! My husband and I really had no idea what to expect. We were simply blown away by the guides, sincerity in really and truly wanting us to enjoy our experience. He walked us through a fascinating history of chocolate and then in each shop he described every single piece of chocolate with such passion and thoroughness that my only complaint was I could never decide what to try! I loved that we got to pick our own at all 4 shops! Burt was great. Chocolate were superb and the shop owners were beyond welcoming.

I have never heard of chocolate tours until moving to NYC. It may sound a little silly, but it was surprisingly entertaining and delicious. Our tour guide (I don't remember his name) was amazing! He was such a great guide, he knew the ins and outs of chocolate itself, the chocolate making process, and basically everything that you never even think about when buying chocolate. It was enlightening to say the least! And his great sense of humor made it enjoyable (unlike some lecture-type tours). As you walk from shop to shop he talks about the city itself, cool facts about different buildings and history, etc.

Now for the chocolate. Oh my goodness, if you have not been to these "chocolate boutiques" you do not know what you are missing!! Unlike 'regular' chocolate you buy in the store, these were melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness! and we got to try a whole range of flavors (from salty to passionfruit to caipirinha). I will only buy chocolate from those stores now, nothing compares.

Even as a new yorker, the tour was still fun and the chocolate of course, unlike anything I've ever had. I totally recommend Celebrity Planet Chocolate Tour for any woman (or man) who appreciates chocolate, whether you live here or are just visiting. (Posted on 1/14/2011)

Balsamic chocolate! Bacon chocolate! I never in my life knew that these types of chocolates existed! This tour has it all. There are also less daring and more classic pieces to try as well. Our guide, Burt, was so good at getting us to try things outside of our usual realm of tastes...and I am so glad he did! My favourtie aspect of this tour was that we got to choose out pieces at each shop to try. Nothing was "set aside" for us. We chose from the case. And the shops seemed genuinely excited to see Burt. It was like being with a chocolate celebrity! We also got to see parts of NY that we would not get to see on one of those impersonal double decker buses. Love love loved this tour! Both Jo (my new wife) and I were already having the time of our lives in New York. We remembered half way through that we had booked this tour and we weren't disappointed. It opened up a new level of New York that was invaluable to the rest of our honeymoon.

Our guide was Bert, who welcomed us in Bond St chocs. He was instantly very friendly, and impressed us with his knowledge of chocolate and relationship with the chocolatiere who recommended some amazing bonbons.

Then, a short walk across town to the next shop where he recommended to us the best chocolate I've ever tasted - a pretzel bonbon. This place was really tucked out of the way on an uninspiring street, but the treasure within was well worth it.

Next, to save from chocolate overload, Bert took us to Eileen's for a cheesecake. He told us it was generally considered one of the best cheesecakes in the whole of New York. And that it was only 250 calories. All this made for much bliss. We tried hard over the next four days of our holiday to find a cheescake that was better by having one with every meal, but alas, Bert was right.

Finally, we walked over to a place called Vosges. They had a theme night on for the Mexican 'Day of the Dead', and offered us some spiced Mezcal and chocolate covered tortillas. Both superlative. After Bert's previous successes, we allowed him to persuade us on the curry, olive oil and balsamic bonbons. Genius.

Bert obviously knew his stuff, but I loved his unpretentious approach and 'the best way to enjoy chocolate is to enjoy chocolate' approach. Next time we're in New York, this will be a must on our list of things to do. (Posted on 11/6/2010)
